The NORCAL AR Series was created in response to the growing demand from Bay Area racers looking for more, high quality events to participate. Our goal is to make each race fun, challenging and minimize the typical "AR hassles" associated with competing in adventure races.

For 2008 we’re in the process of getting permits for 5 event. Race lengths will vary from 4-6 hours, 8-12 hours, and one 24+/- hours.

Race Summary
The 1st race in the series saw a dramatic finish as Team Aquan/RWG edged out Team Brunton by ARNavSupplies.com -- scoring a total of 97 (out of 100) possible points. Had Team Aquan/RWG taken 2 minutes and 14 seconds more to cross the finish line, Team Brunton would have taken first place!

The race began with a trek to 6 checkpoints (CPs) spread throughout the park -- all in off-trail locations. Navigation was critical as teams had to determine the optimal route to reach the CPs and arrive to the Transition Area (TA) to begin a difficult (and cold) paddle across San Luis Reservoir.

On the paddle, there were 2 CPs worth 25 and 24 points respectively. Teams had the option to get one or both CPs in any order. Lead teams all went for both CPs -- despite some strong winds, rain, and occasional hail.

Once off the water, teams mounted their bikes for a bike orienteering section -- with 11 CPs (with variable point values of 3, 5, and 9 points -- totalling 51 points). Again, teams had to get a minimum of 1 CP. However, ALL teams needed to cross the finish line by 6pm or lose 3 points for each minute they were late. Therefore, teams had to strategically determine which bike CPs they would try to gather in order to gain the maximum amount of points.

In all there were 100 points on the course. Only Team Aquan/RWG was able to reach all the points.

Congratulations to all teams for a tremendous effort!
