How difficult are these events?

Difficult is a relative term. However, if you have never done an adventure race, you should expect to make some mistakes and be very tired afterwards! In general, with AR, you're not going exceptionally fast (like you would in a triathlon) as you need to: maintain your energy, make smart route choices, and move as efficiently as possible as a team.

We've designed the courses to enable beginners to finish, but to challenge even the most experienced athletes. If you are new to the sport, you may want to visit our Partners Section and visit some of the Bay Area forums to learn more and participate in an upcoming weekend training session.

Do I need a team or can I participate as a solo?

You can partake as a solo, but we prefer you are on a team with at least one other person. Only those with competent navigation experience ( e.g. having participated in BAOC or other orienteering events) can event solo. Plus, the concept of adventure racing is team-oriented.

Is this a relay event? What if a team member drops out?

No. All team members travel together at all times on the course. You must start and finish as a team and can not get separated (more than 100 yards apart) or your team will be penalized or even disqualified. If a team member drops out for any reason, the remaining team members can continue (with permission from the event director) and finish the course, but there will be no overall ranking for your team.

Is there a detailed gear list or rules for each event?

Yes. Each event will have a more detailed gear list and a set of rules. These will be sent to registered teams. The general discipline information (and associated gear) is listed for each event.

Will I receive an agenda with location specifics?

Yes. Once your team registers, that information will be sent to you. In order to keep the actual course as secret as possible, we will send you the start location specifics within 7 days of the event. The course route is secret until the maps are handed out in the pre-event briefing.

I'm looking for a team, can you help me?

Yes. Use our Contact Us form and we will see if there are others in a similar situation and connect you. Alternatively, you may have even better luck by visiting some of the local AR forums (e.g. BAAR or BAARBD). Their info can be found in our Partners section.

I've got more questions... ?
